Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing compelling content across digital, social, and print platforms while ensuring consistency with our brand voice and communication strategies. Working closely with the Marketing Team and reporting to the Communications Manager, this person will craft engaging content that resonates with our audiences and supports broader marketing and communications initiatives. This role is copywriting-heavy, but also requires an understanding of communications strategy, audience targeting, and brand storytelling. The ideal candidate has a light public relations/marketing background, familiarity with media tracking and news sentiment, and some experience working directly with brands. Success in this role required creative thinking, organization, proactive problem-solving, attention to detail, time management, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and stay current with trends. This individual will serve as a foundational contributor to team organization and overall communications success

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Aligning with overall marketing and communications strategies to develop cohesive and innovative campaigns
  • Conducting research and crafting unique, attention-grabbing stories, blogs, press releases, and educational/awareness pieces
  • Creating compelling content for various mediums, including digital, social, and print, while adhering to the company’s brand standards and voice
  • Applying audience awareness and strategic intent to writing so content supports campaign goals and brand positioning
  • Assisting with public relations efforts, including media list support, basic coordination, media tracking, and monitoring news sentiment
  • Fulfilling simple creative requests, which includes reviewing and editing collateral for branding, tone, grammar, and punctuation
  • Communicating clearly and efficiently with team members and media
  • Organizing and maintaining past and present content, calendars, and communication assets to keep the team aligned and efficient
  • Executing on approved content for publication
  • Managing multiple projects with tight deadlines while maintaining quality and consistency
  • Demonstrating initiative, adaptability, and a proactive mindset is identifying needs or opportunities
  • Any other reasonable duties as required and/or assigned by the Communications Manager.

Qualifications:

  • A degree, certification, or equivalent of two years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism preferred
  • Two years of experience in editing and/or copywriting preferred (portfolio recommended)
  • Experience working with or supporting brand communications, marketing campaigns, or agency/brand environments preferred
  • Familiarity with basic public relations practices, media tracking, or news monitoring tools is a plus
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and proficient editing and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs (e.g., Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the WordPress and media monitoring platforms (e.g., Meltwater or similar tools) preferred
  • Familiarity with various writing style guides (AP/press, marketing, blogs, digital, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of SEO, AEO, and digital content best practices
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and proactive with strong time-management abilities
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and open to feedback with a desire to continuously learn and improve
  • An intuitive, empathic understanding of people, with the ability to hypothesize why a message may or may not resonate with a given audience
  • Interest in staying current with marketing, media, and social trend
