Communities / Local Government (Engineering) - Graduate Programme

Join WSP as a Graduate in Communities Engineering, contributing to impactful local government projects across the UK in highways, structures, and infrastructure.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Support delivery of highway, bridge, and infrastructure projects from concept to completion in locations including Lincoln, Exeter, Cardiff, and Norfolk.
  • Conduct investigations, site inspections, data collection, and analysis to inform design and maintenance decisions.
  • Prepare technical design solutions, drawings, schedules, reports, and documentation in line with approved procedures and national guidance.
  • Supervise construction and manage project delivery with minimal supervision.
  • Engage with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to coordinate project activities.
  • Undertake inspections and assessments of structures, perform preliminary design calculations, and contribute to feasibility and optioneering studies.
  • Learn and apply hydraulic design, sustainable drainage solutions, and water management techniques using relevant software.
  • Participate in strategic transport planning, environmental services, and commercial programme management supporting local authorities.

About You

The company is looking for:

  • Graduates with at least a 2:2 in a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • A flexible approach and appetite to learn within a collaborative environment.
  • A passion for consulting, engineering, and the built environment.
  • Enthusiasm for creativity, problem-solving, and sharing new ideas.
  • Willingness to work in fixed locations partnering with local councils (Gloucestershire, Lincoln, Norfolk, Exeter, Cardiff).
  • Availability to start work in April or September 2026.
  • Completion of a full application form and an online skill enabler assessment as part of the recruitment process.
