The Jr. Cyber Security IT Analyst is an entry-level role that supports the Commission's cyber security program. The Jr. Cyber Security IT Analyst will support daily cyber security operations and monitor for attacks, intrusions, and unusual, unauthorized, or illegal activity. S/he will play a crucial role in helping WSSC Water protect its digital assets and mitigate cyber risks by using data collected from various cyber defense tools (e.g., IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to analyze events that occur within their environments to mitigate threats. Essential Functions ? Work closely with Deputy Director, Cyber Security Services and the team; coordinate with enterprise-wide cyber defense staff to validate network alerts ? Conduct research, analysis, and define correlations across a wide variety of source datasets (indications and warnings) ? Assist in vulnerability assessments, security audits, and the implementation of security controls through report generation, analysis, and outreach to IT stakeholders ? Monitor computer networks and systems for threats and security breaches ? Test systems for potential vulnerabilities ? Assist in report generation, KPIs and monitor changes, as well as reports to stakeholders ? Supports information security awareness through developing training materials, facilitating orientations, and drafting written communications ? Assist in incident response activities ? Attend cyber security webinars, workshops, and training Other Functions ? Participate in the overall cyber security services program development in identifying, protecting, detecting, responding, and recovering activities ? Knowledge of information security technology, administration, and operating standards ? Ability to quickly learn and operate tools in the technology stack for security ? Knowledge of IT security standards & procedures development ? Basic understanding of LAN/WAN, Active Directory/Azure, Microsoft M365, and security operations platform ? Knowledge of external/internal attack and penetration assessments ? Knowledge of information security industry best practices ? General knowledge of cloud, wireless network, and mobile security ? Basic understanding of network security procedures and troubleshooting various levels of technical data ? Good analytical, problem-solving, process facilitation, and organizational skills ? Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams Minimum Education, Experience Requirements ? Bachelor's degree in computer science, cyber security, or a related discipline NOTE: A degree is not required at the time of application but must be obtained by the date of hire as a contingency of employment. OR ? High school diploma (or equivalent) and 4+ years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity operations Additional Requirements Additional experience is helpful Preferences ? 1 year of security operations experience or 15 weeks of cyber experience in an internship program ? Security+(Plus) or similar studies and/or certificate(s) ? CEH and/or GIAC certification ? 1 year of hands-on experience in design/development ? Demonstrated expertise gained through relevant internships, coursework, or work projects that highlight your skills ? Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical knowledge and experience ? Ability to prioritize different activities / assigned initiatives and complete within resource constraints ? Ability to conduct application demonstrations for end-user community ?
